Our History

Mike McMahan learned some of his most valuable lessons in business at a young age while running his own paper route, mowing yards and later as a perishables and frozen food manager at Safeway. Mike’s career in the restaurant industry began during his senior year in college when he was hired at Victoria Station as a busser. He was promoted to waiter and bartender, and upon graduation was accepted into “VS’s” management program after graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in Accounting. One year later Mike returned to the same store (where he first worked as a busser) to take over as GM. That store soon became a training center for the company.
After leaving VS in 1980, Mike opened his own remodeling business, but found he missed the excitement of the restaurant industry, and was lured back by his ex Regional Manager, Chip Pickard, to help construct and open Wall Street Bar & Grill in Midland.
Mike bought out the three original owners in 1982, and in 1987 opened the Arlington Mac’s, named after his father, who was called Mr. Mac by the kids in Breckenridge who he coached baseball over a twenty year period.
You can spot photos of “Mr. Mac” in the bar area of each restaurant, including one where he played shortstop for the Van Alstyne Grays in 1932. One teammate you may spot in the photo is Monte Stratton, the famous pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, played by Jimmy Stewart in the movie “The Stratton Story”.

Our name might sound casual, but our food and service are anything but. People from all walks of life love Mac’s for its welcoming and comfortable ambiance, its professionally trained and friendly staff, and its commitment to quality and consistency. If you are tired of eating the same old food at all of the chain restaurants and are looking for something different, then Mac’s is the place for you. We offer a diverse menu of steaks, seafood, & prime rib served professionally in a rich, classical motif. We work closely with our purveyors to ensure that the produce, meat, seafood, and chicken are of the highest standards and quality. When given the choice between price and quality of ingredients, we always choose quality. Our seafood is filleted in-house fresh daily and our steaks are hand-cut from Sterling Silver Beef ™. We cook everything from scratch and to order. “Microwave” is not a part of our vocabulary.
We have a wine list of over sixty high quality wines, many offered by the glass, and offer a full bar stocked with over fifty single malt scotches and small batch bourbons and over twenty different vodkas and gins. Martinis are our specialty!
We are extremely proud of the fact that all of the General Managers at Mac’s and the corporate staff have worked at Mac’s for over fifteen years, and most of the chefs and line cooks have worked at Mac’s since opening. We are all committed to making your next visit better than the last. Whether you are new to Mac’s or are one of our many long time regular guests, we look forward to seeing you soon. Although not required, reservations are accepted.
